Grace E. Helmeid, 96, of Janesville passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on Wednesday, July 13, 2011. Grace was born on November 28, 1914 in Rock Grove Township, Stephenson County, IL, the daughter of Ira and Minnie (Schoch) Zimmerman. She married Gladwyn B. Helmeid on February 14, 1953. Grace was a long-time active member of Faith Lutheran Church where she served on the council for many years, was active in the quilting project, served as chair person for funeral luncheons and was liaison to the Skaalen Home for the church. She was also active with Meals On Wheels, ECHO and the Mercy Hospital Volunteers.

Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Gladwyn Helmeid, 3 children, Diane (Donald) Lundeberg of Edgerton, WI, Barb (Mark) Helgesen of Evansville, WI, Dennis (Jane) Helmeid of Huntington, IN, 4 grandchildren, Shawn Oren, Shane Lundeberg, Nicole Helmeid, Matt Helgesen, 2 great-grandchildren, Jay and Morgan Oren, 1 brother, Wendell (Jennie) Zimmerman, 1 sister, Doris (Francis) Tielkemeier, sisters-in-law, Dorothy Albert, Modesta Deredinger and a brother-in-law, Virgil (Carol) Helmeid.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 3 sisters.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Faith Lutheran Church, 2116 Mineral Point Avenue, Janesville with Pastor David Andert officiating. Burial will follow in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the church from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday. Memorials may be made to Mercy Hospice or Faith Lutheran Church.
